WHAT ARE THE WARNINGS TO WHICH I SHOULD REFER?

The important caveat to be consulted is that of the Public Health Agency of Canada regarding medical tourism and receiving care abroad: https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/health-safety/care-abroad?_ga=1.138923190.444861515.1455756750

You can check out various other warnings that you can find on the Internet, but remember that sometimes there are interests other than yours behind them.

AM I REQUIRED TO DO BUSINESS WITH A SPECIALIZED AGENCY?

No, in most destinations you have the possibility to go directly to the medical facilities, without intermediaries. However, you should know that undergoing surgery is a particularly stressful event, even in one’s own country, in one’s own language. Medical tourism agencies play an intermediary role and are generally unrelated to medical decisions made by doctors and programs that may be offered to you.

When they are sufficiently professional, they will help you in your efforts and will provide you with a feeling of security that will help you throughout your care project. Do not forget, however, that their involvement has limits, according to the proposed contract and according to their tariffs: for medical tourism agencies, advice and follow-up are their source of income. It is the same principle as a lawyer or an accountant: the services rendered at a certain rate are not unlimited!

If you can do everything alone, so much the better for you but it is often a multi-thousand-dollar project so it is not worth depriving yourself of this valuable help just to try to save a few Hundreds of dollars.

HOW CAN I HAVE INFORMATION ON THE AGENCY I AM THINKING OF DOING BUSINESS WITH?

First, visit the website and the Facebook page, search the “Contact” and “About” pages where you should find information about the owners and the team that helps them. Ask yourself questions when you do not find any information and the site seems anonymous or from out of nowhere or if the owners seem to want to give you as little information as possible.

It should be noted that “Agencies” usually come into being after the instigator has taken advantage of such care abroad and then decides to return to the country and take advantage of this experience to start up his business. So be aware that it is sometimes only one person who may have difficulty withstanding a sudden surge in demand. So, do not just base your decision on the price charged but also on the quality and the capacity of services offered.

Use the “whois.net” website to find out who owns the website or go to government sites such as the Registraire des entreprises in Quebec or Canada Business for Canadian companies.
